Marriage equality rally pics

Here, have some snaps that I took at the Equal Love rally in Melbourne on November 28.

This shot is about as artistic as I can get with a camera:

And again, from a slightly higher angle, to give an indication of the size of the crowd:

The signs and placards on display were very to-the-point.  A small selection:

Notable speakers included the Victorian Eduation Minister, Bronwyn Pike, who discussed the growing movement within the Labor Party for equal rights, and the importance of putting pressure on both the major parties to support marriage equality:

A view of the crowd at the end of the march (yeah, I was too short to get a proper shot over the banner):

I'm pretty sure there's a legal requirement that every march feature at least one drag queen:

And finally, a placard that pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter:

Well...

... that bout of jetlag only took a week to get over.

Will soon be posting vast quantities of New York pics.  Possibly audio, too, once I figure out how.

Now, however, I am retiring to my boudoir, as befits my newfound healthy sleep cycle.

Manhattan-ness

Yeah, I'm writing this update from a bookstore cafe right next to Madison Square Garden.  It sounds more romantic than it really is.

No, look, really.  This is the view from the window right now.

Ostensibly I'm in New York to be a mega rock star type (more info on that later).  But I also managed to squeeze in a bit of touristy stuff, and took a few holiday snaps along the way.

Tomorrow I'm getting on a plane back to Melbourne after three and a bit weeks in the States.  Going to miss this place, but will also have many scintillating stories with which to regale wide-eyed audiences back home.

Many thanks to all the wonderful people who have provided me with accommodation and fine company these last few weeks.

And so it begins

Welcome, all, to my new blog.  Here I shall chronicle my many great works, my feats of daring and wonder, and my tedious and poorly researched political diatribes.  I'm pretty sure that's how the whole blogging thing works.  Also, there will be lolcats.

If you get the reference with my username, then good for you, and give yourself a pat on the back.  If not, feel free to ask, because I'm told that jokes are that much more hilarious when explained in noxious detail.

Now, though, it's time for me to cut the red ribbon, break out the bottle of champagne and declare this blog open.  Salutations, gesundheit, and may God have mercy on us all.
